About the United States Military Academy (USMA)

In a scenic setting of more than 15,000 acres of reserved land, the Corp of Cadets at the United States Military Academy dedicate themselves daily as officers-in-training. This military university is renowned as the world’s premier leader development institution.

Requirements for admission

A candidate must first complete an online questionnaire as a pre-qualification requirement. From this step, they are notified of eligibility to submit an application. If eligible, the candidate is then ready to secure a nomination, usually from a congressman. It is recommended that this step is done in the junior year of high school. Once a nomination is secured, a complete application is submitted. SAT or ACT test scores with a writing exam are then sent to the academy and a request for two medical exams follow for the candidate to determine physical and mental health and whether the candidate has the necessary strength, endurance and agility.

What are the areas of education covered in the bachelor degree program?

The Academy has four areas of focus: Academics, which consists of 26 core courses with over 40 majors; a physical program which includes physical education classes and competitive athletics; military training comprised of Cadet Basic training (first summer), Cadet Field training (second summer) and the third and fourth summers are spent in active Army units; finally, ethical, spiritual and social development occurs formally and informally throughout the 47 months as a cadet.

With strict dedication to its students and devotion to military principles, West Point continues to prepare its graduates to serve as commissioned leaders of character in America's Army of the 21st century..
